Final Fantasy VIII

I have no musical aptitude whatsoever.
Quote by: Sorceress Quistis

The Ragnarok

The Ragnarok is the main airship in Final Fantasy VIII. It was created by Esthar and first used for the Sorceress War as Esthar's flagship. It was used seventeen years before the start of Final Fantasy VIII to move Sorceress Adel's Tomb into space where she could be watched over. It is unknown what happened between then and its rediscovery in space by Rinoa and Squall, nor is it known what happened to its two counterparts. When they find the airship again, they discover that is had been infested by various enemies knows as Propagators. It may be assumed that the crew, if there were any at the time, were killed by these creatures. You may find some notes on these enemies on the ship, hinting at a history of 'Propagator Infection'.

Rediscovery

Squall and Rinoa found the floating Ragnarok in space while they were stranded alone in space due to the Lunar Base's destruction. They boarded it through the top airlock, which was their only hope of surviving as they slowly ran out of air. They then explored the ship and discovered that the airship was overrun with Propagators. In order to completely destroy them, they had to defeat them in matching color-pairs: Yellow, Blue, Blue, Green and Red. If you've killed a Yellow Propagator and then kill a Green Propagator, the Yellow Propagator would be resurrected.

After clearing the airship, you could enter the control cabin and establish communications with Esthar. Then Squall will pilot the airship, with Eshtar's help, back to the planet. After your journey to space, the airship became property of your party. You need it to rescue Rinoa from the Sorceress Memorial and you need it to penetrate the defences of the Lunatic Pandora. During the Time Compression, the Ragnarok had managed to survive the experience, appearing ready to fly in the Kashkabald Desert.

Ragnarok Layout

Cockpit
The cockpit is the control center of the vehicle and is located directly above the Passenger Room. It contains four crew positions: the pilot, co-pilot, the communication station and the navigation systems and is accessed via a lift.

Passenger Room
Accessed from the top deck directly below the Control Cabin the Passenger Room can seat eight people and features a transparent canopy.

Airlock Chamber
An access portal through the 'roof' of the vehicle for space travel. It is presumptively accessed through a decompression chamber and it is advised one wears a spacesuit before attempting to decompress and open the portal, particularly when in space.

Aisle
The Aisle spans the top deck leading between the lift to the Control Cabin, over the Hangar, and into the Airlock chamber.

Hangar
The Hangar is the largest room shown in the Ragnarok. It houses a platform fixed into the floor that may be lowered for the cargo to be boarded. The Top Deck Aisle travels over the Hangar deck to the Airlock Chamber near the rear of the ship.

Boarding Ramp
The main access way for the ship's crew.
