Final Fantasy VIII

This train is awesome! A transcontinental railroad, baby!
Quote by: Zell

Carbuncle

Cerberus is an optional GF, one you could miss if you're not searching everything. Though he's standing in the middle of the Main Hall, you could walk straight past him. In order to obtain Cerberus, you'll have to fight in when you're in Galbadia Garden during the Battle of the Gardens. It is stated in-game that long-term Junctioning of Guardian Forces causes memory loss to the user, because the GF draw power from the same section of the mind that stores memories, so using them is not without risks. I think Cerberus is a nice Summon, not only because I think he looks cool, but his Triple ability is extremely useful and he has some other nice abilities as well.

Cerberus doesn't really attack the enemies, but he casts Double and Triple magic upon your entire party. This is extremely useful, but you might want to get his Compatibility up to the max so he'll arrive quickly in battles.

Location

During the Battle of the Gardens Mission, you'll eventually enter Galbadia Garden. In the Main Hall of Galbadia Garden, Cerberus is waiting for you. When you come very close, the battle will start and you have to defeat him before he'll join you. During the battle, use Dispel to cancel his Triple effect which will limit his attacks. If you did miss Cerberus here, there's a second opportunity to draw Cerberus. That is in Ultimecia's Castle, from the Boss Gargantua on disc 4.

Cerberus' Attack: Counter Rockets

Cerberus actually doesn't attack the enemy, instead, he'll cast Double and Triple on the entire party when Summoned. This is extremely useful to cast two or three spells per character, that is 9 spells per full round! You might want to have a full or high Compatibility to make sure he'll appear quickly in battles. Cerberus comes through a gate to something that looks like a cemetery, then he'll use rockets to cast Double and Triple on the party.

Useful Abilities

Cerberus has one of the best abilities you can find. Its various Junction abilities enable you to raise a variety of statistics per character. The ST-Atk-J and ST-Def-Jx abilities also enable you to cause some nice status effects on the enemy and defend the character from various status effects at the time! Add on the speed boosting abilities, and it's hard to find a better GF.

History

Cerberus (Japanese: ケルベロス Keruberosu; French Cerbere) is a GF in Final Fantasy VIII. Further, not much to say about the history of Cerberus.
