Final Fantasy VIII

Irvine Kinneas! You're playing a major role in this mission. Now behave yourself!
Quote by: Quistis, to Irvine as he flirts with two women from his team, who then complains: "No one understands me..."

The Vase Quest

On this page, you can see all of the details about the side quest Vase Quest in Winhill. First let us look at a table with this side quest's details.

Side Quest Details

Available When Disc 2 (Once Balamb Garden is Mobile)
Difficulty Easy
Rewards Fair
Unavailable When Disc 4
Save Points Abandoned House (upstairs)
Draw Points Curaga (Abandoned House upstairs - Hidden)
Drain (near Old Woman's House)
Reflect (near Truck)
Dispel (Mansion Courtyard)

What to do?

Go to Winhill and head to the large mansion at the end of Winhill. Somebody inside, on the stairs, will ask you to locate a missing vase. The vase is actually broken into several pieces that can be found in different locations in Winhill.

First, let us look at the funny conversation between the party members after you started this quest and the person on the stairs saying that he thinks the house is haunted. Conversation might change depending on which characters are in your party.

(I...I'm looking for my feet... Have you seen my feet...)
If Quistis is in your party, Squall will say instead: "Quistis, cut it out."
And she'll respond with: "Oh, you know?"
If Zell is in your party, he'll say "Yo, man... Quit jokin' around. It ain't funny."

The Vase Pieces

Inspect the suit of armor to star the conversation. After the conversation, search the area until you find the first vase piece.

Speak with the woman living in Raine's house several times until she mentions the aroma of the flowers downstairs. Go down and look at the table in the lower, right-hand corner of the screen. Now examine the flowers and Raine's ghost will appear behind the bar. Speak with her and her cat will replace it. Now in spect the cat to find the another piece of the vase.

Visit the house in the middle of Winhill and talk to the old woman. Check the white flowers toward the foreground of the screen to find another piece of the vase.

Go to the Chocobo Crossing and try to grab a Chicobo. You must be quick, but eventually you'll get the fast little guy. You won't always get the Vase Piece, if you don't get it, just grab another Chicobo.

Reward

It doesn't matter in which order you find the four Vase Pieces. When you have them all, go back to the person in the mansion and give them. He'll be very happy to have them back and he can not glue the pieces together so he'll have his precious vase back. You will receive a Holy Stone for your efforts.

You can also get two free items by grabbing more Chicobo's at the Chocobo Crossing. You'll receive a Phoenix Pinion and a Gysahl Green if you are quick enough. But beware, if you catch too many Chicobo's, the Mother will appear madly and you won't be able to catch any more Chicobo's.
