Final Fantasy VII
Then I'll be going now. I'll come back when it's all over.
There are six main options to travel from one location to another in Final Fantasy VII. Refer to the following list to find out what the ways of transportation are and when or how you can use them.
This is the standard way of transportation. As for every game of the Final Fantasy series, you will always have this option from the beginning of the game. If you walk on terrain, you will have random encounters. And it's not possible to walk through the ocean or through streams.
If you're familiar with the Final Fantasy series, you will know what Chocobo's are as they appear in many of the Final Fantasy series. If you're new, they are like a cross between giant chickens/birds and horses, meaning that they look look giant chickens or a big bird and you can ride them to go from place to place. There are a few different types of Chocobo's and they all will allow you to pass through different types of terrain. There is also an Ultimate Chocobo, the Gold Chocobo, which will allow you to cross any type of terrain. However, it cannot fly like the one in Final Fantasy IX though.
Accepting Dio's challenge and winning at the Gold Saucer will land you with a slightly faster form of walking: the buggy. This large truck allows you to cross streams and land (but not mountains or water) at a slightly faster pace than walking. You still must fight random encounters while in the buggy, though.
This is a small airplane that Cid Highwind made and once you receive it, it cannot fly. This small plane does has it advantages, since it can cross oceans and streams. That's all about it to tell.
You can steal the Submarine from the Shrinra underwater base. Once you have it, you can use it as often as you like. The vessel allows you to dive underwater, cross oceans and go through streams. Using the Submarine is also the only way to fight Emerald Weapon or examine the Sunken Gelnika.
This airship is the best form of transportation in the world of Final Fantasy VII, as it will allow you to fly wherever you would like to go at a very fast pace as long as there is grass to land on. It is also equipped with a resting and saving point and a Chocobo stable, which will allow you to take your Chocobo with you wherever you go.
There are two different stages of the Highwind. In the beginning, when you first get it, it is completely powered by propellers. However, later on, the propellers pop off to reveal rocket-engines. This will allow you to go across the world a whole lot faster!
