Terra is on of the main characters and the one whom you start the game with. Her name is Tina in the Japanese version. She is half human
and half Esper, and one of the only humans able to cast magic. Later in the game, she get the Morph-ability which strengthens your magic,
defense and attack for a short period. Her unique abilities make her a really helpful and important character in the war between the
Gestahlian Empire and the rebel factions. Terra also has the distinction of being the first central female lead in the series.

Locke is a thief, but he likes to be called a Treasure Hunter. He once left someone when she needed him, and after that, he helps every
girl he can find. His ability, Steal allows him to steal Items and Clothes from enemies, which can be very useful.

Edgar is the king of Figaro Castle, the brother of Sabin Rene Figaro and a master engineer. He can handle machines well, and his
special skill, Tools, allow him to use normal tools as lethal weapons in combat. He is also very flirty with woman, as were Edge of
Final Fantasy IV, Don Corneo of Final Fantasy VII, Irvine Kinneas of Final Fantasy VIII, Zidane Tribal of Final Fantasy IX and
Balthier of Final Fantasy XIIl.

Sabin is the brother o Edgar Roni Figaro and thus an apparent heir to the throne of Figaro Castle. However, when his father, the
king died, Sabin fled the castle and was trained in Marterial Arts by master Duncan. His name in the Japanese version is Mash.

Shadow is a loner, an assassin and a mercenary. His only friend is his dog, Interceptor. According to Edgar, Shadow was so cold he would
"Slit his mama's throat for a nickel". He will do anything for money. He comes and goes as he pleases and he's no fan of the opera.
Not much is known about his past, even if he is haunted by bad dreams. His skill, Throw, make him able to throw different Items on enemies.
Throughout the World of Balance, he can leave the player's party at various points after battles without warning.

Cyan is a Samurai and one of the finest and most noble soldiers of the kingdom of Doma. He is very traditional and simple in his preferences,
and despises and fears machines and other technology. After his whole family and all his friends is killed by Kefka's poisonous attack on Doma,
he joins the party in hope of revenge. Cyan also prefers to speak in archaic English and uses "thee" and "thou art" a lot.
He has a wife, Elaine and a son, Owain. His Japanese name is Cayenne.

Gau is a Feral Child, since he has grown up on The Veldt, where he lives together with the monsters. His peech is drowned out by growls and thus
he is very primitive. He treasures his "shiny thing", which turns out to be a diving apparatus. His special skill makes him able to Leap
out on the Veldt, learn monsters attack and use them in battle later. Gau is also afraid of heights.

Celes used to be the General of the Gestahlian Empire, but now imprisoned. Locke saves her and she'll join the party. She was genetically
enhanced and artificially infused with magic, making her the second Magitek Knight.

Setzer is a gambler and the owner of the worlds only known airship: The Blackack. He was neutral at the beginning of the war, being reluctant
to openly oppose the Gestahlian Empire, after having made profits from their work. He attacks his enemies by throwing cards on them. His skill will
make a random attack on the enemies. Setzer's surname "Gabbiani" is the Italian word for "seagulls", but also is similar to the
Italian verb "gabbare" that means "to trick, to cheat".

Mog is a Moogle and a Dancer/Geomancer, he also uses acts as one of the tutorial presenters in the game, the other being Kappa the Imp.
Mog lives deep in the mines of Narshe and he is the only Moogle in the game to speak English. The others just say "Kupo" or variations
of it. Mog is fondly remembered as the first non-mixed, non-human playable character in the series.

He is a descendant of those known in earlier FF-games, as Blue Mages. He lives in Thamasa with his (possibly adoptive) granddaughter Relm Arrowny.
He can learn the enemies' special attacks, and use them later. His Japanese name is Stragus.

Relm is a very talented artist and she can even bring her pictures to live by using magic on them. This is very useful in battles. She is the
(possibly adopted) granddaughter of Strage Magus, whom she scolds whenever he makes a stupid decision. She also seems to have a strange connection
with Shadow's dog, Interceptor. She lives in Thamasa.

Gogo is a mystical and secret character, sealed down in the Zone Eater cave on Triangle Island. To obtain him/her, the party must let the Zone
Eater eat them, where they can head to the room where Gogo awaits. He/she can "equip" 3 different Skills from the other characters, and
with his/her own skill, Mime, he/she can mime the last attack.

Umaro is a young yeto who lives deep in the mines of Narshe. He is a friend of the moogles and only answers to Moogles. He uses primitive stone
tools and goes completely berserk in battles, making him uncontrollable. He is a secret character who can only be recruited in the World of Ruin.
"Hee, hee! Nothing can beat the music of hundreds of voices screaming in unison!"
Kefka is a joke of an imperial general. But don't get tricked by his funny comments and cool face, this guy is actually dangerous and the
villain of FFVI.
Emperor Gestahl, or also Gastra or Ghastra is the dictator and ruler of the Gestahlian Empire.
When the Returners cornered Gestahl and Kefka near the statues, Gestahl offered the exiled Celes one more chance to join the Empire. Kefka gave
her a sword and asked her to slay her friends. Celes stabbed Kefka instead. This caused him to demand the Statues to increase their power,
but Gestahl tried to stop him because Kefka's actions could cause the world to be destroyed. Gestahl tried to harm Kefka with a barrage of
magic, but the power of the Statues absorbed all of his spells, leaving Kefka unscathed. Kefka then commanded the Statues to attack Gestahl.
Gestahl was fatally wounded by a flurry of lightning bolts. Kefka subsequently kicked Gestahl off the edge of the floating continent to
his death, freeing himself to pursue his mission.

He is the chief genetic engineer of the Gestahlian Empire, and he invented the Magitek process. Born in the fifth year of the nation of
Vector, Cid is a member of the Márquez bloodline of patriotic scientists of the northern state of which became Vector in the war of
fifty years before the game's beginning.
Aside from working in the Magitek Research Facility, Cid also grew in a greenhouse a veritable collection of exotic flowers, his favorite of
which, were roses. As Celes grew, she would help him in the greenhouse, where Cid named his favorite flower after her and eventually gave it to
her to adorn her quarters.
Cid is one of the characters that you will find in almost all of the Final Fantasy series.
General Leo Cristophe
"I knew you were being used as some sort of biological weapon. And because I didn't do anything about it, I'm no better than
He is a noble and honorable man who fights for what he believes in. He is the finest swordsman in the Gestahlian Empire, and one
of Emperor Gestahl's most trusted men. He always preferred negotiation over combat, in contrast to Kefka. He discovers the evil there
and tries to save our friends.

friendly and starts working on the coliseum.
